Ancestra, The Vino Theater 2022

Hi, I'm Maggie!

I love to investigate what makes humans tick and make even the most mundane moments explode on stage. As a director, I untangle complicated relationship dynamics and bring desire and taboo to the surface.

I am most drawn to stories about the complicated social dynamics of girlhood, embarrassingly honest human experiences, and the weirdness of life. I'm excited by new work and inspired by chronicles from real life (mine and yours!). Dramaturgy is one of my favorite part of pre-production, so I love digging into a real-life event connected to a play.

My voice as a director is inspired by Riot Grrrl, an underground feminist punk movement, because my work is often girl-centered, opinionated, and unmediated by the male gaze. My work packs the same punch as your favorite early 2000's pop-rock song.

In pursuit of confronting humanity's deepest flaws and vulnerabilities, I tackle difficult and uncomfortable topics unapologetically. I direct from a place of empathy for every character in a story to create complicated authentic human beings on stage. I especially want to craft female and LGBTQ+ characters who have previously only existed to push forward the stories of straight male characters.

Dynamic and action-based storytelling is essential in my method of staging. I search for exhilarating reveals in every production I direct; including revelation of space, a sudden shift in relationship dynamics, or an unexpected design element. When a theatrical moment has me on the edge of my seat, that's when I know I have succeeded. I do this by exploding small moments of character tension and heightening beat shifts in the story arc.

It is important to me to create space in all my processes for vulnerability, room to make mistakes, and open conversation. With a background in devised-theater, I work collaboratively and invite everyone in the room to contribute to the creative vision of a piece.

I am currently a senior at Pace University, majoring in BA Directing with minors in Arts and Entertainment Management and Creative Writing. In addition to directing, I have a passion for writing, devising, self-producing, and theater education. Click below to view my resume and what is currently inspiring me.
